On March 8, 2024, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE) of South Africa released a draft National Biodiversity Economy Strategy (NBES) for public comment. The consultation period was initially set for two weeks but later extended to April 5, 2024.
Launching “The Framework for Extractive Industries Governance in ASEAN”
Hanoi, December 5th, 2014 – People and Nature Reconciliation (PanNature), in cooperation with Institute Essential Service Reform (IESR), organized a half-day workshop on “Launching the regional framework on EI governance”.
The framework comes with four principles and prescriptions that cover good governance principles and practices across the value chain of extractive industries: (1) Protection of the environment; (2) Respect and protect human rights; (3) Transparent and accountable practices; and (4) Sound Fiscal framework and revenue management.
The framework is an initiative from civil society organizations, aiming at providing a platform and tool for harmonization of policies in extractive industries in ASEAN, especially the region will become an economic community in 2015.
The Framework has been developed for more than two by a team from IESR in collaboration with CSOs from the region: CRRT from Cambodia, IDEAS from Malaysia, Bantay Kita from Philippines, CODE and Pan Nature from Vietnam, Luta Hamutuk from Timor Leste, Spectrum and Shwe Gas Movement from Myanmar, and Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Indonesia, Article 33, and PolGov UGM from Indonesia, and Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI).
The Framework will also be presented during ASIA CSR FORUM on 10 December 2014 in Singapore.
