Training for Trainers: “Facilitation Capacities in Training”

In the process of cotributing to improve forestry policies, civil society organizations have bridged local communities especially ethnic minorities with relevant state agencies. However, besides achievements, these organizations have faced many limitations including (1) organizations’ role is not properly recognized by other stakeholders; (2) organizations’ staff lack in-depth understanding about institutions and policy making process; (3) humble financial resource prevents large scale and long term initiatives; (4) facilitation capacities of organizations’ staff are not strong enough to build trust and attract active engagement of different stakeholders in improving forest governance.

In order to enhance capacities of forestry governance officers and those who facilitate different stakeholders in forest governance, the Center for People and Forest (RECOFTC), People and Nature Reconciliation (PanNature) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) co-organized a training for trainers (TOT) “Facilitation capacities in training” in Da Nang, Vietnam from October 8th to October 12th.

The training was attended by 20 trainers from various cities and provinces in Vietnam. They enthusiastically engaged in discussions on adult learning, fundamental roles and attitudes of facilitators and practiced vital skills such as listening, observation, asking questions, paraphrasing and etc both in class and in Dai Nghia Commune, Dai Loc District, Quang Nam province.

Tien Hai reserve saved from development in win for nature in Vietnam

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed a decision this month to fully retain Tien Hai Nature Reserve, in a rare example of environmental protection winning over development in the Southeast Asian country. Located in the northern coastal province of Thai Binh, the reserve gained attention in 2023 after the provincial government announced a plan to remove protection from almost 90% of the area. This would have reduced the reserve area from 12,500 to 1,230 hectares (nearly 31,000 to just over 3,000 acres) to open up space for a proposed residential, resort and golf course complex called the Con Vanh Ecological Urban Area.

Vietnam Airlines took part in SkyTeam’s The Aviation Challenge

On the special flight, Vietnam Airlines conducted various activities to raise awareness and promote environmental protection among passengers. The passengers were also presented with a special gift: a plush toy representing the critically endangered white-cheeked gibbon (Nomascus leucogenys) - one of the world’s rarest primate species. This gesture aligns with the "Contribute Leaves to the Forests - For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam" campaign.
