Less than three months after the initiative was launched on World Environment Day (June 5) this year, the project achieved its goal of planting 25 out of the total 50 hectares planned.
Promoting women participation in forest restoration in Xuan Nha Nature Reserve
On November 14th, 2018, launching workshop of the project “Promoting women participation in forest restoration in Xuan Nha Nature Reserve” was organized by People and Nature Reconciliation (PanNature) in collaboration with Xuan Nha Nature Reserve Governance Board and Xuan Nha Commune Women Association.
22 female members of Xuan Nha Women Association, 2 representatives from Xuan Nha Commune People’s Committee and 3 PanNature project officers attended the workshop.
Xuan Nha Commune Women Association has chosen the types of plants and restoration sites within Xuan Nha Nature Reserve. The selected model restores large timber (targeted plant) intercropping with fast growing timber for extra timber products (such as fruits, flowers and leaves) and non-timber plantation. This model is considered highly sustainable for its forest restoration purpose and its livelihood benefits for households governing the forests.
The project is sponsored by GIZ and implemented from October 2018 to March 2019 to enhance the role of ethnic minority women in forest governance and protection and improve local livelihoods through indigenous non-timber plantation. In addition, the project also aims to receive budgets from PFES and forest allocation to maintain this model.
