In Vietnam, management of wildlife diseases has garnered attention from both the State and the public. This is evident through a comprehensive system of regulations addressing diseases that can be transmitted from wildlife to humans spanning a range of documents, from laws to decrees and circulars. However, despite these efforts, the practical implementation of wildlife disease management still encounters numerous challenges and shortcomings.
Promoting Sustainable Production and Facilitating Market Access for Bamboo Shoots in Xuan Nha Commune
The Xuan Nha bamboo shoot production and processing cooperative was founded in 2020 with 12 core members and 4 cooperative groups in four villages of Xuan Nha commune (Tun, Na Hieng, Chieng Nua, and Pu Lau) of Van Ho district. The Cooperative Management Board’s core members are entirely women, and the majority are Thai and Muong ethnic people.
The cooperative has a workshop with a planned annual production capacity of 200 tons of bamboo shoots, with an emphasis on three primary products: pickled bamboo shoots (3-star OCOP standard), silage bamboo shoots, and dried bamboo shoots.
However, the cooperative was having problems selling products due to a lack of commercial orientation and market access, raw materials were not assured, and there was little emphasis on sustainable exploitation.
In 2023, we assisted the cooperative in reorienting its marketing and product strategies through survey and evaluation activities, market research, and purchasing more equipment to improve production capacity (05 bamboo shoot soaking tanks, 01 cargo crane, building 100 outdoor bamboo and net drying racks for bamboo shoots).
Xuan Nha commune is in the buffer zone of Xuan Nha Nature Reserve.
