PanNature and RIC Explore Partnership for Forest Restoration in Van Ho

PanNature and the Research Center for Community Development Initiatives (RIC) recently met to discuss a potential five-year partnership to restore and protect vital forest ecosystems in Van Ho district, Son La province. The collaboration aims to address pressing climate change and environmental challenges while promoting sustainable development in the region.

PanNature and RIC teams share project activities and discuss potential partnership.

The proposed initiative would focus on four communes—Song Khua, Suoi Bang, Chieng Yen, and Chieng Xuan—and target the rehabilitation of special-use forests, protection forests, and community forests. Key priorities include biodiversity conservation, improved livelihoods for local communities, and sustainable forest management, aligning with efforts such as the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030) and Vietnam’s One Billion Trees Program.

If the partnership is formalized, PanNature would contribute its technical expertise in afforestation, overseeing site selection, planting design, and post-planting care. Additionally, the organization plans to introduce community-driven solutions like agroforestry systems, medicinal herb cultivation, and circular agriculture models to support both ecological and economic resilience.

RIC, on the other hand, would focus on community empowerment, providing training in biodiversity surveying, forest protection, and database development for local rangers and authorities. RIC would also assist in identifying funding sources and developing forest management plans that integrate local traditions and community interests.

The discussions emphasized the importance of community participation in ecological restoration. Both organizations aim to involve local populations in every step of the process, creating a model that not only conserves biodiversity but also improves socio-economic conditions for ethnic minority communities.

This potential collaboration underscores the value of strategic partnerships in driving meaningful environmental and social progress. PanNature remains committed to advancing innovative, community-focused solutions that protect Vietnam’s natural heritage while enhancing the livelihoods of local residents.
