Launching the “Leaf Contribution for Forest Restoration 2025” Campaign – Protecting the Forests of Northwest Vietnam
On March 3, 2025, the “Leaf Contribution for Forest Restoration 2025” campaign—a tree-planting initiative aimed at restoring 60 hectares of forest in Son La – was officially launched through a collaboration between Vietnam Airlines, MoMo, and PanNature. This initiative integrates sustainable tourism with environmental protection, where Vietnam Airlines and MoMo allocate a portion of their ticket revenue to a reforestation fund for PanNature’s “Regreening Forest” program. The campaign aims to combat forest degradation, promote ecosystem restoration, conserve biodiversity, and enhance local livelihoods.
Forests are habitats for diverse flora and fauna and vital sources of resources, clean water, and climate regulation. The natural forest corridor between Hoa Binh and Son La once served as the “green lung” of Northwest Vietnam and was home to the rare White-cheeked Gibbon and many endemic species. However, increasing exploitation and development pressures have led to the degradation of this ecosystem. Community support is essential to accelerate and enhance the effectiveness of the restoration process.
“Leaf Contribution for Forest Restoration 2025” builds on the success of the 2024 “For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam” campaign, now expanded with the goal of restoring 60 hectares of natural forest in Son La. More than just an environmental initiative, this campaign represents a message of hope and collective action toward a greener and more sustainable Vietnam.
As part of the campaign, from March 3, 2025, to December 31, 2025, for every successful Vietnam Airlines ticket purchase of at least 2,000,000 VND made directly through MoMo or paid using MoMo funds, 5,000 VND (equivalent to 1 “Leaf” unit) will be contributed toward the restoration of 60 hectares of forest in Son La.
Partnering with Vietnam Airlines and MoMo Travel in this campaign, PanNature – a non-profit organization with 20 years of experience in nature conservation – will oversee planning, restoration design, seedling preparation, and coordination with local communities and authorities to implement reforestation efforts. PanNature will also monitor and ensure the long-term regeneration of the restored forest areas.
“Greener Forests” is a long-term forest restoration program initiated by PanNature, aiming to restore 500 hectares of natural forest connecting Mai Chau (Hoa Binh) and Van Ho (Son La) over a 10-year period (2022–2032). The project prioritizes planting native species such as Michelia, Canarium, and Baccaurea, following a multi-layered forest structure that promotes natural canopy closure as quickly as possible. Local communities are actively involved in planting, nurturing, monitoring survival rates, and conducting supplementary planting in subsequent years to ensure full forest recovery. |
“For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam” is a forest restoration campaign co-initiated by Vietnam Airlines and MoMo Travel as a commitment to sustainable tourism development. Within this framework, “Leaf Contribution for Forest Restoration” is a dedicated project where both partners contribute a portion of their airline ticket revenue from each eligible transaction to the “Greener Forests” reforestation fund led by PanNature. |
